The Pilot Club of Tarboro, through a Pilot International Grant, provided helmets to the Tarboro Police Department, which handed them out on Saturday April 6th at the Bike Rodeo!

The SpringFest StreetFair & Blue Ribbon Kidz Day event was hosted by the Town of Tarboro, the Tarboro Development Corporation, Vidant Edgecombe Hospital, and Edgecombe County Government. The day included kid activities, dancing, vendors, food trucks, and a Bike Rodeo.
Bicycle Rodeos gives bicyclists a place to practice safe biking skills and a place to practice difficult lessons. In addition to teaching bike safety, many Bike Rodeos offer free helmets, such as the ones provided that day by Pilot, and demonstrate proper helmet fitting.

Brain health and safety awareness is only one focus of Pilot Club. A safety helmet program expanded the brain health efforts. Pilot International helps local clubs get discounts on helmets, and offers grants to help clubs secure more helmets for their communities. The Pilot Club of Tarboro was awarded one of these grants.
Did you know? Approximately 40% of all bicycle-related deaths are due to head injuries; ¾ of all bicycle-related head injuries occur among children ages 14 and under; and many children are simply unable to protect their heads while bike riding because they don’t have access to quality, affordable safety helmets.
